The last few years have been transformational for me and I have conquered many fears along the way. I left a marriage and later a career, which I built for over twenty years of my adult life. It has been an exhilarating and scary road, but I am grateful beyond words for this journey toward a new life, and my career as a health coach.
Before my transformation, I was anxious, completely stressed out, and I started binge eating. I didn’t recognize the woman I had become. After I turned 40, my metabolism came to a screeching halt. I gained 35 pounds in four years! I had severe pain in my hip joint that caused my leg to give out from underneath me at random times. I was referred to a physical therapist to work on strengthening my hip joint, but I knew my body was rejecting the added weight and I needed to act fast. I also knew if I didn’t get my weight under control, 35 pounds could quickly turn into 50 or even 100 pounds.
On my weight loss journey, I tried different weight loss plans that were expensive, but got results in the short term. One weight loss “coach” made a comment that “people will eat cardboard in order to lose weight.”
As someone who loves food, I knew this was not true! I still wanted to eat real food that tasted good. I could sustain the weight loss for a year or a little longer and then some of the weight would come back when my cravings returned.
I was still stress eating when life got difficult and I wasn’t sustaining the results long term. I also resented that my body was changing as I aged, and my body could no longer tolerate some of the foods that I loved.
I know there are many women who share a similar life story or health struggle and want real help and support. One of my favorite paradigms is that “small hinges swing big doors.” I’ve learned along the way that nourishment is about much more than just food.
I now maintain a consistent weight and experiment with different foods that are nourishing and still taste delicious. I no longer feel like I need to deprive myself in order to have the body and life I want. My mission is to share what I have learned in my personal journey to make the transformation easier for other women who are committed to improving their health and well-being.
